Helping to Keep Afghan Police Alert

Recently, a new road was built in a district west of Kandahar. This road will help increase commerce and the general well being of Afghans in the area. This road lies within the area of responsibility for a US army infantry company. However, it is also in an area in which the Afghan government is trying to establish greater legitimacy. Therefore it requires 24-hour security. In support of this mission, the army company has been overseeing the training of Afghan police who are responsible for securing the new road for the Afghan citizens who travel along it on their way to and from the bazaars in their district.

With the onset of winter and with new police manning the checkpoints, it is critical that Afghan police are able to remain at their posts in order to accomplish their mission. This often requires the police to live and sleep at their checkpoints for extended periods of time. A significant difficulty that these police have in accomplishing this mission is that they do not have blankets to keep them warm at night and help maintain their diligence.

With the assistance of donor support to Spirit of America, SoA was able to step-in and fill a critical shortfall in Afghan police capabilities. Thank you for your generosity in helping to keep the police warm and safe during winter months. This helps US troops accomplish their mission of strengthening Afghan governance.
