"Exponential" help to Army & villagers
Greetings - You will really enjoy watching this:
That lovely young lady is enjoying a new winter coat courtesy of the US Army and Spirit of America. For the last two years our support has been focused on our troops in Afghanistan but we recently helped a US Army team in neighboring Tajikistan. Watch the video here. It's terrific.
An "ounce of prevention"
The Army team's work is an "ounce of prevention." It's part of the US approach to addressing security needs before they become security problems.
Sergeant First Class Nick Fitzpatric explained, "We have an idea of what security could be like if we weren't helping here. It's important to us to make sure Tajikistan remains a stable country."
The Army team told us about a remote village they wanted to help as part of their counter-extremism and humanitarian mission. The village needed solar lighting for a school and clinic, medical supplies and winter coats for 150 school children.
"Faster than anything I've ever done"
Within 3 weeks of hearing from the Army team, we had the solar lighting installed and the Soldiers were delivering the medical supplies and coats provided by Spirit of America. The video tells the story.
SFC Fitzpatric talked about SoA's speed. "It's definitely our ethos to move fast. We like to move as fast as possible. We like quick results. With Spirit of America the results are way faster than anything I've ever done since I've been in the military."
Here is boy with a coat given to him by our Soldiers.
Helping the village clinic and mothers giving birth
Spirit of America worked with the US Army civil affairs team to equip the village's health clinic for the winter. We provided a solar lighting system including roof panels and battery storage system. Before this the clinic had no electricity. Any emergency that happened after dark could only be lit by candles and lanterns. Now the doctor has electricity for any emergency, day or night.
We also provided needed medical supplies -- scalpels, sutures and sterilizing kits- and a full winter's supply of drugs to support childbirth, including antibiotics, and Oxytocin to prevent postpartum hemorrhage -- a cause of death in local women after childbirth.
"Exponential ... a world of difference"
Army Staff Sergeant Rob Oakley said, "The value Spirit of America can add to our mission is exponential ... this kind of work makes a huge difference. It makes a world of difference."
Thank you for the support that made this project possible. You can support other projects like it here: support Spirit of America
