Navy HM1 Ward-Women & Children's Engagement Project

Empower Iraqi women and children with education, literacy and sewing center supplies

Fleet Marine Force Corpsman (HM1) Charlotte Ward is serving with the 1/4 Battalion's Caleb Platoon near Fallujah, Iraq. She wrote to Spirit of America to secure supplies for women and children to provide them a support system to combat the instability they face on a daily basis and to empower their self-sufficiency through education, literacy and a sewing center. Your contributions to this project to benefit HM1 Ward's request will help to bring practical assistance and hope to Iraqi women and children in need.

Original Request from HM1 Charlotte Ward
"I am a Fleet Marine Force Corpsman, female serving with a Seal  Platoon. This project is a joint effort with the Marines of the ¼ Battalion’s Caleb Platoon. We jointly work to provide medical support,  much needed assistance and supplies to villages near or around the Fallujah area of Iraq. We are concentrating on the women and children, as  they are the basis for bringing stability to the areas.  Many are widowed and have no  means for accessible medical care, a basis for income, or little chance for education and literacy. These efforts  assist in forcing out the elements of instability. You do see very much the difference in the areas where there is available education,  it is an obvious dichotomy. I am doing foot patrols, going house to house and also having events in village centers, schools, or a tribal leaders homes. I have now spent three years here and believe that what we are doing can bring a means to end violence and help the Iraqi women and children find a voice and hope. Your support will give the means to start a literacy project, make improvements to a school/clinic, start a sewing center." -Fleet Marine Force Corpsman Charlotte Ward
