The Marines Need Our Help
Marines in Afghanistan have asked us for help with a range of items to support them and their mission. They need humanitarian goods like clothing, winter blankets, shoes, medical supplies, school supplies and irrigation equipment. These goods help them build trust and improve relations with local people which, in turn, helps the Marines be safer and more successful. We are currently supporting requests from the 2d Battalion/3d Marines, the 2d Battalion/8th Marines, the 2d Light Armored Battalion and the 1st Battalion/5th Marines.
Your support is important. LtGen Joe Dunford, Commanding General of the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force, said, "“Our challenge in Afghanistan right now is to gain the trust, confidence, and support of the Afghan people. Spirit of America is tangible evidence of the good will of the American people. It contributes to a climate of trust and confidence between our Marines and the local people. In the current fight, it's clear that actions speak louder than words ... SoA is all about action!”
Here are some of the Marines requests where your contribution will be used:
Solar-powered radios
Irrigation equipment
School supplies and sports gear
Instant cameras and film
Blankets and clothing
