Civil Affairs team in Balad, Iraq needs clothes, sports equipment, hygiene and school supplies

Army Civil Affiars Major Jorge Cintronolivieri arrived in Balad, Iraq at the end of 2007 and quickly identified supplies that could have an impact on their units ability to help the local community.  The Major's "wish list" includes supplies to support the education, health and well-being of Iraqis in this region where political and economic stability has been a struggle. With your support of this project, SoA will help Major Cintronolivieri and his team reach out to these people in need.

The Original Wish List of Supplies Needed

 
Iraqi children receive gifts
"As per our prior emails, I ask my TM LDRs (Team Leaders) to send me a wish list of all the items they think might be good to have in support of the people here in our AOR (Area of Responsibility)....
a. 1000 Humanitarian Assistance Hygiene Kits:  the following items placed in a clear Ziploc bag….1 bar soap, 1 closable soap dish, 1 tooth brush, 1 small tube of tooth paste, 1 hair brush, 1 travel size package of baby wipes, 1 travel size bottle of shampoo, 3 disposable razors, and 1 small can of shaving cream.
b. 100 School Sports Program Kits:  1 plastic foot locker or other durable container, containing the following items……1 small hand pump for inflating balls, 2 uninflated soccer balls, 2 uninflated volley balls, 2 uninflated kickballs, 2 uninflated basketballs, volley ball net, 4 frisbees, 2 large jump ropes, and 4 individual jump ropes. 
c. 100 Teacher Supply Kits:  Box full of supplies to aid a teacher to do their job…..suggestions……chalk for chalk board, desk organizer things, Administrative grade and performance book/folder/organizer….etc….ask a teacher about this package.
d. 1000 Children School Supply box:  the following items packaged in a pencil box…..pencils, erasers, small pair of scissors, colored pencils, some fun stickers.
e. 1000 pr Children Flip-flops:  general assorted sizes for kids in 1st to 6th grade, unisex color, simple basic flip flop.
f. 1000 t-shirts:  general assorted sizes for kids 3yrs up to 12yrs, unisex colors, simple basic plain tshirts.

Use of funds
We are a 501c3 nonprofit and your donation is tax deductible. 100% of all project donations (excluding credit card processing fees) will be used for direct project expenses (i.e., purchase and shipping of the needed goods and services). We do not deduct fees or expenses for organization overhead. Those expenses are funded separately. Donation Policy Your donation will be earmarked for this project. Donations in excess of those needed by this project will be used to support other Spirit of America projects.

Project Status

April, 2008: Thanks to your generous contributions 500 each school kits, hygiene kits and soccer balls were distributed by Major Cintronolivieri and his unit to assist the Iraqi people.
