A Great Day in Garmsir: Mian Poshtay School Opens
Today was a great day for the students who attend the Mian Poshtay School in the Garmsir District of Helmand province. Not only did they get to check out their newly built school, courtesy of the US Marines, they also received a brand new winter jacket and knit cap -- thanks to you, Spirit of America donors and supporters.
The school opening was attended by all the Garmsir District leaders, the local Afghan National Army unit, Marines, and the US State Department's District Stabilization Team.
The sergeant major told me that today was one of the best he's experienced since their tour began back in November.
"I usually don't get to see a lot of these events," Sergeant Major Brent Cook said. "But seeing these kids' faces, it made my day." He also acknowledged, you, Spirit of America donors, who helped make this day possible: "Thank you, America!"
There are still more schools and students who need warm winter clothing. Please visit our winter clothing project page here to donate.
